Teaching materials

Gróandi is making teaching materials in Icelandic, Norwegian and Danish that:

  • incorporate sustainability into math

  • incorporate sustainability into social science

  • make it easier for schools to include food growing in the school schedule

By making these materials we make sure that all schools in Iceland, Norway and Danmark can teach sustainability, as described in their curriculum already!

Our teaching materials are tested by schools in Iceland, Norway & Danmark.

Have a BIG impact - educate many!

Hold sustainability events & courses

Quite many people want to and have a need to change their lifestyle and adopt to a more sustainable lifestyle.  But without support and knowledge that change will happen slow or not happen at all and they are left with bad conscience.

Take part in holding events/courses that give people the support needed and introduce them to other people that are also making that change. We can help people get empowered to make the changes they would like to see happen, within themselves or in their local environment.

Empower people to make the change!

Accomodation & food

Interns will share a house/apartment in Ísafjörður.  Walking distance to the town center and Gróandi's growing areas & greenhouses.

Food is included in the internship.  We put a lot of emphasis on:

  • growing our own food

  • making healthy meals from scratch

  • fermentation like kefir and sourcrouts

  • conservation of food by drying, canning, freezing, making pesto, salsa, herbal teas...

  • sourcing zero waste food

Nourishment & community

Are you interested?

Be the change you want to see in the world

1 year long internship to empower individuals that are genuinely interested in creating a more sustainable and regenerative world.  Hands-on permaculture education, experience and skills that you can use for the rest of your life.  Inspiring individuals to continue to generate positive social change and sustainable practices in their own lives and communities after they leave.

2024 our internships will be arranged through the European Solidarity Corps.  Young people (18-30 years) from Europe can apply.  It's especially helpful if interns can speak & write Icelandic, Danish or Norwegian, since we are making teaching materials in these languages.  Feel free to contact us if you are interested and think this opportunity fits well for you.  You can also go ahead and apply through this link:

Few words from previous interns...

Griffin, US

"Hildur is one of the best people I could have wished for as a boss for this experience. Not only is Gróandi a super cool place to work with a lot of different projects that can highlight people's different skill sets, but it is also really fun to feel part of the community through this project. There is so much to learn here and there is a lot of stuff that I miss dearly so if you have the opportunity to work here take it -- I promise you won't regret it!"

Veronika, Germany

"When I came to Hildurs place, I knew only a little about permaculture as a sustainable way of growing plants. During that time I learned a lot about the real meaning of living with nature, changing habits, taking care of the things you own, repairing them, and taking care of this planet so that our descendants still have a chance to live a good and fulfilling life. Hildur and her family showed me once again that it is worthwhile to live your life in such a way that it fulfills you and does not fulfill the expectations of others."

Lovis, Switzerland

"It was a lot of fun, but I have learned a lot as well. Working with Hildur was a life changing experience for me. She knows a lot of little changes you can do to make your life more sustainable and healthy and of course knows plenty about permaculture. She loves to share and to laugh so the work has always been fun and interesting. There was like a really cool teamwork feeling while working where everybody could share their ideas and the results were very satisfying."
